What to pack in a diaper bag?

Que mettre dans un sac à langer ?

The changing bag is the essential carryall for every parent. But this bag is not like the others. Thanks to its clever compartments, it allows you to safely transport all the survival gear a young child requires — without feeling like you're taking your entire home with you, snail-like. If you are the proud owner of this precious holdall, here is a non-exhaustive list of essentials to slip inside for a stroll or any other trip, with complete peace of mind.

The essentials

Let us first draw up together a list of the essentials for any young child venturing out of their cocoon…

- Nappies! Of course, this is the very first thing any adult thinks of! In a changing bag, one of the many pockets is designed exactly for this — that goes without saying. Whether you're a reusable nappy family or a disposable one, you'll have no trouble packing what you need. Allow roughly 3–4 nappies for a full day…

- To make nappy changes easier, a travel changing mat or pad can be slipped into the bag with ease.

- Still with this in mind, make sure you have wet wipes or a wash mitt, cotton pads, and a travel-sized version of your nappy cream or other cleansing lotion.

- Think about packing a plastic bag or, better still, waterproof pouches, to store soiled nappies, empty food pouches or jars… Until you can dispose of your waste properly.

- Also important in your changing bag: muslins, of course (such as our DOLI muslins) — they serve as a blanket, a bib, a comfort cloth…

- Any outing calls for a change of clothes (especially a bodysuit) to be prepared for any unexpected accident…

- Finally, depending on your baby's age and the time of the outing, a bib can be useful for wiping a well-fed little mouth.

Bonus: one or two dummies, a toy…

Has your baby started weaning?

The changing bag has more than enough room for all the necessities! A fruit pouch for a snack, a small dish to warm up or not, a spoon, a bib, a few biscuits… Everything is in the bag!

When breastfeeding…

An extra muslin if you'd like more privacy, nursing pads if needed, and a snack to keep your own energy up!

When bottle-feeding…

A bottle, mineral water, and pre-measured portions of formula powder!

Depending on the season

- In case of warm or sunny weather

Pack sun cream, sunglasses, a hat — and remember never to drape a muslin over the pram, to avoid baby overheating…

- In case of cooler weather

A small blanket can be rolled up inside a changing bag — just like our DOLI birth blanket! For a sudden chill, don't forget to pack an extra layer such as a small blanket, a jumper, an extra pair of socks, a hat… All the things that are so easily lost on a walk!

Going away for longer?

Weekend away, holiday… Whatever the adventure, you can add to this list your baby's health record book and a first-aid kit: paracetamol, antiseptic, thermometer, saline solution and a nasal aspirator, arnica…

And for the parents

A great advantage of the changing bag is that it also has room for parents' essentials: keys, documents, ID, hand sanitiser, tissues… And don't forget a few little toys to help the journey pass a little faster!

Our non-exhaustive list is now complete,
and you're all set to pack your changing bag without forgetting a thing!
Here's to heading out with a light heart and making the most of these moments
with your little one, ready for any surprise!
