Summer and winter baby: how to dress them to sleep at night?
As parents, your baby's nights and sleep are at the heart of your concerns. The ideal outfit to help your baby sleep well matters. So, how should you dress your baby at night, especially when it's very hot or very cold? What type of pajamas and sleep sack should you choose? We give you all our tips for beautiful nights.
Summer baby nightwear
In summer, avoid dressing your baby too warmly in the evening. When your child's room is at 24°, your baby should wear a short-sleeved bodysuit and a light sleep sack. Above 26°, it is recommended to let them sleep in just a short-sleeved bodysuit, without a sleep sack. Above 27°, just keep their diaper on.
During a heatwave and when your baby's room overheats, you may be tempted to use air conditioning or a fan. So what's the right approach? Fans can be used to circulate air in the room and help create a feeling of coolness. Be careful, however, not to direct the airflow toward your baby or to have too strong a ventilation. The same applies to air conditioning — never direct the airflow straight at your child. You can keep the room temperature between 24° and 25°.
Winter baby nightwear
Now let's move on to the chill of autumn and winter. When it's cold and the temperature in your baby's room drops below 18°, dress your baby in a long-sleeved bodysuit, a pajama and a thick sleep sack. From 16° to 17°, add a pair of socks. Below 16°, add a hat and mittens!
How do I know if my baby is too hot or too cold?
The better you know your baby, the more you'll notice whether they're at the right temperature. Watch for these signs: red cheeks, a little bead of sweat running down… Then they're too hot! Babies also make themselves heard when something is wrong. If they're crying, it means something feels off. You can also feel the back of their neck, which works a bit like a thermometer. If your baby is cold, it's not recommended to add an extra blanket. Opt for an extra layer of clothing, a hat, or a thicker sleep sack instead. To cool them down, remove a layer of clothing.
When it comes to baby bed linen, opt for cotton sheets. This breathable material keeps your baby cool while absorbing perspiration, both in summer and in winter. We have a beautiful range of small cotton fitted sheets, perfect for pairing with our baby furniture.
