Comment choisir les meilleurs produits du quotidien pour son bébé ?

Welcoming a child is an occasion every parent approaches with care. One of the biggest concerns surrounding a birth is choosing responsible products that are kind to the environment and gentle on a baby’s delicate skin. So how can you balance safety, quality, and everyday practicality? Here are a few tips from parents who’ve been there to help you find your way.

1 - Clothing

Whether your baby is born in summer or winter, choosing the right fabrics for a newborn is crucial in any season. We can’t say it enough: little ones have delicate skin that deserves special care, especially when it comes to clothing. Babies need fabrics that are soft, nonirritating, free of toxins, and breathable, that absorb as much moisture as possible and, of course, are easy to machine-wash (that last one’s a bonus for you!).

Unsurprisingly, cotton is the clear winner, preferably GOTS- or Oeko-Tex-certified. Early childhood specialists recommend it because it’s breathable and hypoallergenic. A few alternatives include bamboo, cotton gauze, and muslin. The main thing to remember is to avoid materials like polyester and acrylic, which are harmful to the planet, harsh on the skin, and can cause excessive sweating.

2 - The skincare routine

A baby’s skin is both the softest thing in the world and the most delicate. It’s considered “immature” because it’s thinner than an adult’s skin, and its protective barrier isn’t fully developed yet. Newborns have to contend with little skin folds, sweat, irritation, and friction. Sometimes they develop a little redness or experience dehydration. Yes, a whole range of skincare products can quickly pile up on the changing table, and that’s perfectly normal!

How do you choose the right skincare products? Pick ones suited to your baby’s skin and age. You can also double-check the ingredient list to make sure there’s nothing harmful or toxic in it. It’s simple: the product’s formula should be straightforward and gentle.

Not sure? Look for a certification such as Cosmebio or Ecocert. These certify that a product is formulated without harmful ingredients. Avoid creams with fragrances or dyes, which can be irritating. Finally, you can scan a product before buying it to get an outside assessment.

3 - Diapers

Granted, the vast diaper market can be hard to navigate, but we’re here to help! Charlie Crane fully embraces the vision and approach of la marque en moins for its transparency, simplicity, and efforts to protect the environment. The brand makes diapers without single-use plastic, using natural formulas and French manufacturing, at a fair price thanks to a short supply chain. We love their approach because they don’t claim to be perfect (who can?), and their website shares updates on their progress and the issues they’re tackling. Their current goal: to become a purpose-driven company with a positive social and environmental impact. In short, they show that eco-friendly, affordable diapers are possible, and we clearly share the same values.

What we love: their diapers and pull-up diapers have passed the test with us, discerning parents. It’s no wonder they have the highest absorbency rating (A)!

They’ve just launched their powder laundry detergent for babies and sensitive skin, and we can’t wait to try it ;)

4 - Baby’s first bed

Because a child sleeps 16 to 20 hours a day, choosing where they sleep is essential, too. Safety is, of course, the top priority: the bed should be comfortable, open, well-ventilated, and breathable, and preferably free of bars. Pay particular attention to the materials as well, ideally choosing untreated wood. The goal is to limit exposure to chemicals, toxins, and allergens as much as possible. Want to repaint a secondhand find? Choose solvent-free, water-based paint. And to complete the cozy nest, consider a polyurethane foam or natural coconut fiber mattress!
