Between the hospital bag, the daunting choice of stroller, and the newborn clothes, you will also find near the top of the list: decorating the baby's room! Here are our best tips for equipping, decorating, furnishing, and putting together the most beautiful nest for your future newborn.
1 - A quality sleep space
It is probably THE first purchase made for your future child, and for good reason: a baby sleeps a lot! Up to 20 hours a day as a newborn… So, whether you have fallen for a KUKO basket that can be taken anywhere or for a KODO co-sleeping bassinet in the other rooms of the house, the bed remains the centerpiece of the baby's room. At Charlie, we offer the very classic KUMI wooden bassinet, very soothing, or our latest LUGO convertible baby bed. This wooden bed accompanies baby from birth until the age of… 7! Thanks to its oval shape that echoes the curves of an egg and its delicately angled slats, it is incredibly comforting for baby's first months of life. At 2 years old, it transforms into a junior bed before becoming a big-kid bed for children aged 4 to 7. Ideally, LUGO can even be kept as a bench seat in any interior, making it a piece to keep for life! For us, it is a heartfelt choice — at once reassuring, durable, timeless, and always as design as ever to dress a room with elegance.
2 - Quality paint with blime
Choosing the colors for a child's room… it is a true art!
That is why we partnered with blime, the premium, made-in-France paint brand, because we share the same values: a responsible approach, thoughtful production, artisanal know-how, respect for raw materials, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Indeed, blime offers paint ranges that are 100% water-based with very low VOC formulas, preserving indoor air quality. Moreover, every order is tinted to order only!
Here are a few ideas for combinations between our furniture and some blime colors:
- for a clean, gentle atmosphere: the Honey Moon, Pottery Mood, or Goudes Enough shades, which pair perfectly with the LUGO convertible bed or the KUKO basket
- for a room that stimulates development and awakening: Colonel Mustard, On Mute, Okinawa Fog, which pair beautifully with the KIMI lichen bed and the KUKO farrow basket.
- for a cozy space between stimulation and rest: Spaghetti Western or Road Trip are two shades that work with the KIMI rosewood bed.
Note that there are a thousand and one combinations and the only limit is your imagination!
3 - A dedicated changing space
The changing table is also an essential element of the baby's room. Undressing, changing diapers, giving a massage… It has a thousand uses and must be both practical and safe while also suiting the room. For this, we offer the PAGO changing table with its two gently curved storage trays. Classic, practical, durable, and design: it fits into any interior. When baby no longer needs a changing table, PAGO transforms into a small children's desk! Magic.
Finally, second option: the NOGA wall-mounted changing table. It is one of our signature pieces. This table saves space thanks to its surface that folds flat against the wall. It is comfortable, safe, and adjustable to the height of your choice. Another plus? Its storage compartments to keep all products, toys, and diapers within reach!
Note that the changing table does not necessarily have to be in the baby's room — it can also find its place in a bathroom.
4 - The must-haves for the baby's room:
- storage: whether for toys, clothes, swaddles, or care products… Think about incorporating small storage solutions or chests, baskets, and bins, so you are not quickly overwhelmed! Sure, they are tiny, but they come very well equipped!
- decoration (in small touches): keep it simple! Baby will grow quickly and the room is bound to evolve over time. We therefore advise against a radical or overly busy décor. Instead, go for small touches of lovely objects to your taste, without overcrowding the space.
- a night light: essential! A soft little night light for nighttime wake-ups, the bedtime ritual, short nights, or simply a quiet moment.
- an activity mat: Baby will gradually awaken during their first year of life, so plan ahead to have an activity mat somewhere in the room so they are comfortable (and so are you) by their side.
Pssst, at Charlie we designed the TAMI activity mat and its design adapts to your interior thanks to 7 different colors! Match it with the NAHO wooden toy arch.
- frames and posters: a must, because a beautifully framed poster instantly adds a lovely tone and style. It is an element that can be both stimulating for baby and comforting as they grow, having been chosen with care by their parents…
- an armchair or a relaxation spot: if you can, choose a comfortable seat or set up a cozy little corner! Ideal for settling in while keeping an eye on baby, when breastfeeding or giving a bottle in a calm and soothing atmosphere.
- safety: you need to quickly think about protecting electrical outlets and furniture where baby could bump themselves, even as a newborn!
To conclude, enjoy the process! It is a magical moment — shape it in your own image, imagine you are preparing your nest to welcome your little one into a space that reflects who you are… That is what matters most.
