Children's room: when to move to a big bed?

Your baby has grown up and you feel it's time to say goodbye to their cot. A little heartbreak for you (what, my baby isn't one anymore?!) and a real milestone for your child, this change marks a turning point. Charlie Crane shares all its tips and advice for transitioning from a baby bed to a big bed.
Chambre d’enfant : quand passer au lit de grand ?

Bye bye cot

An important milestone in a child's life, moving to a big bed is one more step towards independence. Your child will be able to get out of bed on their own, day or night!

This change shouldn't happen just any time! Even if there are no set rules, you will notice telltale signs:

  • Your child is climbing the bars of their cot.
  • They are starting to feel cramped, especially with all their soft toys.
  • They no longer want to sleep in their sleeping bag.

Do you recognise yourself in any of these statements? If Junior is also between 2 and 3 years old, then now is the right time to make the change. Parents, get your tissues ready and… prepare the ground for transforming their little room.

Which big bed should you choose for your child?

Before changing your child's entire room, its décor and bed linen, take several factors into consideration: the size of their space and your child's state of mind. While some little ones are thrilled to be growing up, others are apprehensive about leaving their cosy cocoon.

If you would like a gentle transition, or if your child's room is small and cannot accommodate a standard single bed of 90 × 190 cm, we recommend a transitional bed.

The YOMI Junior bed has a sleek shape reminiscent of a daybed. It accommodates a 70 × 140 cm mattress. These dimensions safely welcome children from 2 to 6 years old.

Our other secret for a successful transition? A bumper, to slip under the fitted sheet. This alternative to traditional bed rails is reassuring. Made entirely of foam and softness, it helps the child understand the limits of their new big bed. This barrier creates a protective cocoon. Plus, our Bumper can also be used with the KIMI convertible bed in its open version.

Your reviews of the Yomi bed

Let real parents share their thoughts on our YOMI bed!

Luc, father of Juliette, 3 years old

"The YOMI has been with us for 1 year. The transition was smooth. What a joy for Juliette to be able to come and see us in the morning all by herself, like a big girl, without us having to lift her out of bed."

Sophie, mother of Adam, 5 years old

"I struggled to fit an adult bed in my little boy's room. The size of the YOMI was a great alternative. I also love its design. When Adam gets too big, we'll repurpose the Yomi as a small bench in our living room."

Marie, mother of Tristan, 4 years old

"My son never leaves his YOMI, let alone his Bumper which reassures him enormously. Even on holiday, he wants to take it with him!"
