The essentials for starting diversification

Dear parents, welcome to this major milestone: introducing solid foods. It's a vast world, a vast subject, and one in which many find themselves lost or overwhelmed by information. You might be wondering where to start, how, at what age, or whether to try baby-led weaning (BLW)... Don't panic! It's actually quite simple, and Popote has been supporting parents on this topic for almost 10 years. What are the essentials for a smooth start to introducing solid foods to your baby? We'll tell you.

Les incontournables pour démarrer la diversification

A comprehensive booklet to learn everything about diversification

You have a thousand and one questions, and that's perfectly normal. Popote has therefore compiled all these questions into a small book and answers them simply and thoroughly. None of your concerns have been overlooked… In this collection, Popote provides information on baby-led weaning (BLW), how to combine breastfeeding and weaning, how much milk your baby should drink at each age, which fruits and vegetables to start with, how to introduce allergens, how to diversify fats, and why. This book, created by experienced parents and with the advice of a specialized nutritionist and dietitian, is your bible to guide you from the beginning to the end of this journey!

Pop-ups

Popote is a revolution in weaning because it's the only brand that offers single-ingredient pouches that are cooked and blended, ideal for starting out. Everything is organic, French, well-sourced, and the selection is huge! You can easily introduce all kinds of fruits and vegetables (even those that aren't in season, as the pouches keep for about 8 months). We love the slightly more unusual flavors: fig, corn, parsnip, cherry… There really is something for everyone, and the fact that it's a single-ingredient product with a smooth texture makes weaning a breeze, even when you're on the go!

Bonus: Popote has since diversified and now offers pouches that accompany baby throughout their learning process thanks to texture games, proteins, starches, smoothies…

Double bonus: recipe ideas to satisfy your child's taste buds age by age!

A good high chair

A high chair is an essential accessory, and therefore, it's important to choose it carefully. First and foremost, the high chair must have a good seat to ensure your baby's comfort throughout their learning process. If it's adjustable, even better! Secondly, it must be easy to clean… We don't need to spell it out for you; your baby will gradually explore with their little hands and inevitably get things everywhere.

At Charlie's, we offer the TOBO high chair (suitable from birth with the Newborn car seat) and a HIKO table seat Ultra-practical and portable, it adapts to all tables.

Bibs (in abundance)

You might already have bibs for bottle-feeding, but when you start weaning, you'll see their potential become even more apparent! And the choice is vast: some have sleeves, others have a small reservoir to catch food that falls from the corner of the mouth, and some even double as a tray! You have plenty of options, and whatever you choose, they allow your baby freedom of movement, giving you peace of mind about your clothes!

Let baby explore with their hands

You'll soon notice that your baby puts their hands in their food, and that's a very good sign! It's exploration, and it starts with touch before taste. This curiosity should be encouraged rather than suppressed. Your baby wants to play, squish things between their fingers, and suck on things—it's completely normal.

A food processor

Well-known to all parents, these food processors are absolutely fantastic because they can steam, blend to the right consistency for each age group, defrost, and sometimes even sterilize… They do practically everything except peel vegetables. They are indispensable because they save time and are often compact. Quick to clean, space-saving, and their steaming process preserves all the nutrients in fruits and vegetables. Ideal for starting weaning, you can also use small glass or freezer-safe containers: meals on hand for the whole week!

A touch of patience

It takes a lot of patience when starting meals with a baby, as they will explore at their own pace. Furthermore, you need to offer a food several times to see if they like it or not. Children aren't always the same in this regard; some are very curious, while others are less interested in food. In any case, babies develop, grow, awaken, change, and nothing is set in stone!

A pinch of letting go

And goodness knows you'll need it in just about every aspect… Don't worry about quantities: baby has a satiety hormone, trust them. Not interested? Don't force them, offer it another time! Yes, they'll probably make a mess: on the floor, on themselves, and maybe even on you—it's normal, it's part of the process. Stay calm! After all, baby is exploring their tastes little by little, and it's with time that their little taste buds will become more refined.

And good cheer!

Some accessories are less essential and depend on individual preferences. A few examples: pacifiers, silicone (or regular) cutlery, a playmat to avoid washing the kitchen with a lot of water… It's up to you! Whatever happens, weaning is a wonderful time for both you and your baby, and these memories will last a lifetime, so enjoy!
